Project Goals & Objective
- Consistent management reporting and budgeting across the enterprise
- Single-point reporting application to address financial, customer satisfaction, position control, and daily decision making
- More flexible budgeting tool to meet various needs of many stakeholders
Business Issues
Providence Health System faced a number of financial reporting and planning difficulties. Multiple versions of the same information were housed in different systems including Trendstar, HBOC, and Great Plains Dynamics. The disparate data sources produced inconsistent reports. The budgeting system did not support the budgeting process: managers had to alter budget methods to “fit” the tool, including inputting totals multiple times to “back into” desired results. The old system offered no access to detailed departmental information. Further, the systems were all built with different chart of accounts making a consolidated rollup extremely complicated. Getting consistent management reporting and budgeting across the enterprise was an extremely arduous task.
Ranzal Role
Ranzal team members implemented a two-part solution that brought budgeting, consolidation, and reporting processes to new levels of efficiency. For reporting, Ranzal developed a system that delivered the analytics and mission critical data that Providence executives needed in a user-friendly and intuitive interface. For planning and budgeting, the solution provided the much-needed flexibility to consolidate all of Providence’s operations into a system-wide budget. Planners now have the capability to perform Revenue Modeling, Salary Planning, and Business Logic tasks. It also gave users the ability to access the detailed data they require and modify information at various levels for all entities within the organization.
Business Benefits
Ranzal developed a performance management solution that gives Providence executives and accounting teams an easier and more effective way to manage the business with real-time visibility into the operations of the entire health system. A single, system-wide structure for consolidation provides detailed budgeting at the department/sub-account level; a single-point reporting application with a user-friendly and intuitive interface provides easy access to crucial decision-making information; and a flexible budgeting tool now conforms to the needs of the budgeting process.
